Back to school for the kids and back to basics for us.

It’s fall and the kids and grandkids are heading back to school. As we kick off a new school year lets kick off a simpler way to navigate through this thing called life.

Have you ever heard the phrase K.I.S.S.? It means keep it simple stupid. Remove the stupid (so many better words in the English language) and add in Seriously and you’ve got a great saying. Keep It Seriously Simple. So many things are overcomplicated these days. From nutrition to fitness to finances. It can be hard to navigate the world with so much information. So, lets K.I.S.S.

Here are some quick tips to keeping life simple in a complicated world.

  1. Focus on what you can control. There are so many inputs in our daily lives. It can get super overwhelming as we try and take it all in. To keep this simple, let’s try and focus on just the things we can control. Namely, our actions and reactions. A hard life lesson is that we cannot control other’s actions; just our own. As we focus on our own actions, we release our need to control others. This keeps life simple, knowing what we can and cannot control.
  2. Eat whole foods. As we enter the nutrition world, we are FLODDED with so much information. So many super foods to eat and so many chemicals to avoid. The list changes weekly. If we focus on making it simple by eating WGOLE FOODS, we cut out so many questionable items, keeping our diet balanced and free from additives with excess calories. There is only junk and food, no junk food.
  3. Move daily. Our bodies are machines, they need to be used or they’re going to rust and break down. By moving daily with resistance training, a walk, ruck, swim, hike, gardening or bike ride, we keep the machine in top order. Keeping the options open and giving ourselves grace to just move, we take the complicated calculations out of movement.
  4. Resistance training. Adding external load and weight training is SO important to health; but it doesn’t have to be complicated. At TOA we focus on five movements that are in every workout. These are: hinge, carry, overhead action, row, press. That’s it. The basic movements that comprise every TOA workout. Bonus: train with a TOA trainer to make this one really simple!
  5.   Drink fluids, all day. Water and tea are great options. Period.

BONUS: Read daily. Education is the key to success. In anything. Make it a habit to read something daily. Continuing to learn and grow our mindset ensures we never stop developing and that is the whole goal of life. To continue to grow and learn until the day we move on.

With these simple steps we take a complicated world and make it simple. We K.I.S.S. Don’t over complicate life, make it simple and enjoy it tenfold, with less stress and less complication.
