There are three common ailments that effect many of us as we age: Sarcopenia, Osteoporosis and Obesity ("The BIG Three"). At TOA our mission is to help prevent and/or reverse all three in you!

Our training approach features movements with free weights (think kettlebells, dumbbells and bands) as this style of training most appropriately prepares you for real life experiences. Squatting, pulling, pushing, pressing, twisting, throwing, slamming, splitting your feet (walking, lunges, etc.) and even jumping are movements that all of us do (or should be able to do) on a daily basis.

Sarcopenia can take effect within 7-10 days without resistance training. This is when muscle mass is lost to a point where regular life movement and strength is reduced and/or even LOST. 


Osteoporosis is the softening and brittleness of bone in which density is lost. This can start to occur in younger populations (20s-30s even!) who are not resistance training. Body weight training is NOT enough! External load is needed to keep bone density HIGH!


Modern government defines obese as a BMI of 30+. This is a ratio of height and weight, not taking into account heavy muscle mass. So we prefer to gauge obesity on fat percentage [33%+ for women and 21%+ for men]. Obesity leads to many diseases (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and even depression!) and places massive amounts of stress on the organs and joints.

In my 22+ years working as a strength and fitness professional I have had MANY personal experiences including: cancer (twice), hip replacements (three times), lower back surgery, carpal tunnel repair, hernia repair and a couple others sprinkled in here and there, that have provided me a unique opportunity to experience life preparing for, rehabilitating through and living life post-op with a limited or disabled body. 

Through these experiences I've developed a training philosophy that addresses many of the common aging limitations like low back pain, arthritis, obesity, sarcopenia and osteoporosis.

After earning my bachelors degree in kinesiology, my masters degree in personal training and earning both my CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) and CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) from the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) I dedicated all my efforts to building programs that help people get strong, feel capable and conquer their fitness goals.
