The Truth About the Health Industry
Supplements, diets, and trends are they really worth it?
Let’s take a look through time. At what point did our health crisis start? What is the root cause?
Truth?
It is many things. Here is my top 10.
- Junk Food (generally shelf stable foods stripped of all nutrients)
- Chemical Preservatives, Artificial Sweeteners, and Food Dyes
- Mass Pesticide Usage
- Sitting Disease (increased with more desk jobs and computers/gaming)
- Sunshine Avoidance (think of the tan beaches in the 70’s to the aisles of sunscreen now)
- Medication Advancement (we can treat our symptoms and not the disease)
- Chronic Dehydration (this one gets me)
- Lack of Physical Jobs (turned over to equipment and machines)
- Decrease in Outdoor Play and Adventure
- Factory Farming
Now, not all of these are horrible things. Advancement is medicine is great! We just need to remember to use it while we TREAT THE PROBLEM. Equipment and machines have advanced the jobs we can do and the time frame they can be done in. Factory farming and pesticide usage (whereas I don’t agree with it) have allowed for increased food production and crop yield.
However, we throw all these together and we have a problem for our country’s health. Capitalism, amazing, has opened the door for people and companies to take advantage of a sick society to push their “cures” for the common diseased state we are living in. Supplements, diet foods, fad gym equipment, the next cure all medication are lurking waiting to take advantage of those desperately in need.
I’m here to let you know that you don’t need all of that. You may need some help along the way from the advancements in our culture but they are NOT THE CURE.
What is, you ask?
Consistency, effort and discipline.
It doesn’t matter (not really) what workouts you do as long as you move. It doesn’t matter what foods you eat; if they are real, made from nature foods and not too much. The noise the world tells you “YOU NEED” to be healthy, mostly is a lie. You just need consistently healthy (real unprocessed) food, you need disciplined movement, and you need to put in effort to heal (emotionally). It isn’t as complicated as one would seem.
Now as we talk this out, we can easily see that exceptions arise. Those needing hormone replacement, insulin (type one diabetes), and other specific examples. What we are talking about is maximizing our specific bodies health. Each one of us has a specific weight and muscle distribution (our constitution) that leads to our perfect health. This perfect-health self is revealed with consistent clean nutrients, daily rigorous movement and proper effort to make the choices that heal our bodies not, hide the sickness.
Top five tips to move toward perfect health:
- Move daily - preferably lifting weights.
- Eat whole foods as they are found in nature or pretty close.
- Drink your body weight in ML of water each day.
- Soak up the sun every day. Five minutes will do.
- ASK QUESTIONS! You have to ask questions.
- Is this healthy for me?
- How does this make me feel?
- Is this a need or a want?
- Does this come from nature or made in a lab?
- Is this GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and been proven to not do harm?
- Is this for convenience or health?
As we say at TOA: We don’t train AROUND the limitation we train WITH them – often leading to the limitation disappearing. Same goes for perfect health. We don’t live hiding our symptoms, we heal our root causes of sickness (symptoms).
So, keep it simple, clean and consistent. That is all you need. It is discipline that makes us healthy.
