How do we detox from the holidays?

When people think of detoxing, they can envision a juice cleanse, some sort of pills to flush the “system” or even a coffee enema 😳!! Here at TOA, we take our “detoxing” a bit calmer and broader.

Spring, the changing of the season, is a perfect time to detox and shake the dust off from the winter. Every season we should be cleansing in a sense and setting our bodies up for the next season, change of weather and life focus. Let’s look at some simple tips to make this happen, without the coffee….

  1. Take a week to remove the excess. Take the first week of your cleanse and remove the junk. This is an easy one to start with. Throw away treats, bagged goodies left over from all the sharing during the holidays. Bottle up the booze and store it for the next big event. Fill your cart with tons of fruits and veggies that are in season. Strive to eat as fresh as possible.
  2. Quite literally shake off the dust. Deep clean the house to remove all the stale allergens that have accumulated during winter when we keep the doors and windows closed. This will help as we are flooded with new outdoor allergens. Open the windows and allow the fresh air to breeze through.
  3. Soak up that early morning sun. The sun is out longer and longer now, and we are in need of a vitamin D boost; so, start to slowly expose your body to the sun. Wearing hats to protect the sensitive skin on our face and allowing the rest to absorb it for 15-20 min.
  4. Move outside. Take your body outside, not just for the sun but to be in nature. Nature is in full bloom and not only is it beautiful to witness but it is also proven to calm the body, and mind, but it improves our response to stress too. Bonus… no media to bog down your brain. Tune out the noise with a hike.
  5.   Journaling can help you focus your goals for the next season. Sure, we all have 10 year and five-year goals, but how do we get there? By creating smaller steps/goals to follow along the way. Each season is a great time to check in and make new steps to reach those life goals.

As you can see, TOA doesn’t do enemas πŸ˜‰ (usually, hehehe). But we do nature, fresh foods, sunshine and organization! All of which are a form of detox. So, take that meal outside on the porch, take a walk to hear the noises of nature, garden in the sun to grow your own produce this year. Spring is here and we are all about it!
