Schools Back in Session

Why we need to STOP learning about health and fitness.

WOW! That is a bold and confusing statement. Why on earth would we want to STOP learning? Well, if you know us at TOA, you know we NEVER stop learning. Never. Ever. However….

With science improving, tracking improving, and our understanding at cellular level improving we are seeing a society hyper focused on the minute details. With this, our focus starts to narrow, and we forget about the simple, easy, big-picture takeaways that make ALL the difference.

The research we have been developing is fascinating, don’t get me wrong. The science that shows how to specifically manipulate our cells to produce more ATP, to recover faster; the supplements that boost our brain power and protect us: ALL are amazing and for sure needed in the complete understanding of health. But how much of that should be practiced by everyday people in their daily lives?

Here is an example.

With the invention of the multivitamins (something that has been around forever it seems) and powdered greens we see people eating less veggies, they simply just drink the green powder and pop a pill. That is so much easier in our busy lives than cooking fresh veggies or eating them raw. Seems legit. However, the downside isn’t just less vitamins and minerals in the diet from fresh foods… it is the fiber, the bulk, the water content, the way the WHOLE food works as nature intended. Keep it simple by consuming a variety of colored foods to consume all the vitamin and minerals. Side note: a book by T. Colin Cambell, WHOLE share this concept wonderfully.

Another example.

When consuming fluids throughout the day our bottles are marked to count the ounces and we have tracking apps to determine how dehydrated we are. We’re sold hydration packets and salt packs to “rehydrate us”. We are pushed energy drinks to avoid the midafternoon delay or the early morning starts. When we consume real, fresh foods our body is given the vitamins and minerals needed to absorb plain unaltered water and keep us properly hydrated and at the correct electrolyte levels.

We “add” stuff to the water and we strip our food of nutrients only to add back in artificial versions. Why? Convenience?

We are a society with a solution to every problem we create. We make problems so we can make solutions (ie. money).

What we are missing isn’t from the future, it is from the past. It’s clean, real food, devoid of chemicals and pesticides. It is a lifestyle not filled with instant gratification. Good quality living doesn’t come in a package or doctor’s office. It comes with the mundane, boring, consistent, choices we make every day.

The decision to hand make your fresh, real food; the choice to move and use your body daily; to breathe fresh air; to soak up the sun are the decisions that make you live longer. The answer can be simple. Start with these easy free choices:

  1. Soak up sunshine
  2. Go for a walk
  3. Drink enough water
  4. Gratitude journal or gratitude meditation
  5. Make connections, call a friend or family member
  6. Spend time in nature, sets our rhythm
  7. Grounding (bare feet in the soil)
  8. Sleep 7-8 hours per night

These are FREE. They don’t take much time, but they do take effort, they do take intention. Why take short cuts that don’t solve the problem but only mask the symptoms? Take the long road, heal from within. True health isn’t filled with supplements and medication; it’s filled with nature, effort, and strength.

Stop looking at each individual tree and find the forest; enjoy the beauty of the whole being.
